When I received DecoArt's Americana Decor Chalky Finish line I had two cigar boxes that was just calling it's name. First I want to say that I LOVE this paint. It goes on most surfaces and I LOVE The color selection:
I will also make mention that these paints are currently exclusively available from HomeDepot.com. This is my redecorated Cigar Box.....
One of my favorite things as an Artist is working with DecoArt and the many adventures this has brought for me. The word Artist is not so easy to roll off the tongue. From this place of Art and being an Artist I have been able to experience some amazing things.
One such thing is going to CHA to see fellow Artists I admire and respect. This CHA I I enjoyed the time I spent at DecoArt's booth seeing their newest products and meeting...Andy Skinner! I have known about DecoArt's new Media line coming out for a long time and have been wanting to burst. Seeing them in action makes me even more excited.
Another cool thing is having my art featured in their current catalog which you can see HERE:
All my fellow Artists I work with along with the people at DecoArt are great. I also want to say a special thank you to Susie who I had the pleasure of meeting at CHA. We had a wonderful conversation and it left me feeling movitvated and inspired to keep doing and sharing what I love. The word Embrace kept coming up in our conversation.
She also gave me some vintage sheet music to tear up and use in my art which I am so thankful for! Look for that in future Mixed Media shows.
So in 2013 I "Let it Go"..........and for 2014 I will "Embrace" me, the Artist and all this wonderful world of Art has brought in my life. So Susie I dedicate this piece to you...
today it just felt great to play and Embrace that Artist...
Oh another perk.........awesome products to work with!! That never gets old and grateful every day for every color of the rainbow to color my world!
So with that said........I embrace this side of me that keeps me heading in a most awesome direction. Who knows where that is but I know it is one full of amazing colors and people. I will be sharing more of my CHA adventures soon!
"Among the things that you can give and still keep are your word, a smile and a grateful heart."
I love that this past Sunday gave me the opportunity to be with the kiddos, catch up on things and get creative in my Studio. What was even more special is my daughter wanted to make them too with her friend. I decided it was a good day to do this. We pulled out our favorite DecoArt Gloss Enamels and some glitter and went at it.
Have fun and LET IT GO...doodle and make them meaningful to you. I put words on them which represent what the holidays mean to me.
What I loved about this project is the girls got into it with me and had so much fun (I even heard a "Micky, your mom is so cool").....
Here is all you need...
Simple and fun.
Thanks DecoArt for rocking our Christmas fun around here! I so want the kids to remember project like these. Happy Holidays and remember to make special memories like this.
"The trick is to enjoy your life today. Don’t wish it away by waiting for better days ahead."
My favorite holiday, Christmas is quickly approaching and I am getting ready. Here is the color pallet I am working from for some quick and easy gifts:
Here is what I created for $2!
I made a trip to the Dollar Store and purchased mini martini glasses for $1/each! I turned them into a quick holiday gift very easily:
Use thin painter's tape to mask off and make fun dimensional lines.
use a cosmetic sponge to dab on paint for best results and do not over work the paint.
Mask stem and use DecoArt Gloss Enamels Glass Chalkboard Paint on base of martini glass.
Bake the piece to cure the paint. Place on cookie sheet and put into cold oven. Heat oven to the appropriate temperature per directions. Bake for 30 minutes, turn off oven and leave glasses to cool.
Condition chalkboard paint area by rubbing chalk over entire dried, painted surface then wipe away for smoothing chalk writing.
What I love about these is I can personalize each one of these by writing the names on the stems and they only cost $1! The Glitter Gloss Enamels makes them sparkle in the evening light. Fill them with candy and some ribbon and you are done! Enjoy your craft preparation for the holidays!
Holiday Cheers!

"don’t say you don’t have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michaelangelo, Mother Teresea, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, Albert Einstein, etc… "
Now that Thanksgiving is over I am excited to share the start of Chistmas season for me! Every year I like to make new ornaments for the kids. I also do an ornament exchange with my girlfriends and love to personalize them. This year is no different and I am excited to bring on Christmas and Holiday Cheer!
I decided to keep it fun and easy this year......and inexpensive! I picked up these paper mache ornaments for only $1/each at Michael's.
I wanted to turn them into personal chalkboards to write messages to my kids leading up to Christmas....
Finish off with personalizing fun messages in Chalk. You can change the messages daily...perfect for those special people in your life.
So simple and I will be making more for my ornament exchange this year to give my special friends a personal messgae on every ornament along with marking the year. These also make great gift tags that can be hung on the tree!
In honor of this ornament fun DecoArt is hosing a GIVEAWAY!!!
It is going to be a great Christmas! I have decided to make sure that all my decorations are fun and easy to make this a stress-free holiday season! Thanks DecoArt for making that possible! I will be making lots of handpainted Christmas presents this year!
"Don’t let dumb little things break your happiness. True wealth is the ability to experience and appreciate each moment for what it’s worth."
Make sure to check out more DIY Ornaments from my fellow DecoArt Bloggers:
Every page has an emotion and tells the story of where I was that day or how I was feeling. It reminds me of this crazy little journey we call life and I am happy to get to share it with so many! So from start to finish I THANK EVERYONE who was part of it. May you have been inspired by a few elements from these pages. Thank you to the companies that sponsor me such as DecoArt for your vast array of colors and Strathmore for your amazing paper and entrusting me to paint something pretty on each page. I look forward to the next journal I crack open!
"It’s the process of following your path that’s important, not the speed at which you progress down it. Happiness is found during the journey, not at the destination. Slow down so you can appreciate the forest for each of its trees. You have a better chance of truly seeing where you are when you stop spending every waking moment trying to get somewhere else. Take the time to celebrate the goodness surrounding you and how far you’ve come, rather than focusing exclusively of what’s still left to be done."
All November I am coming from a place of Gratitude. Sometimes we lose sight of that and in this month of Thanksgiving it is a reminder to us all. I am ever so thankful I started that "Let it Go" Journal last weekend that I shared yesterday. This is my "practice what I preach" journal where I am going to just play and release. So yesterday morning here was the page I quickly created which became my concept for last night's Mixed Media Monday:
This page just felt right from start to finishing all the little details....
Remember to join the Facebook Group HERE and share your projects! This week our official November Creative Dare will be announced. Our theme is Gratitude and I will be ever so mindful of that this month as we bring in Thanksgiving and my family. I am grateful for every Monday night I share with you all and the days that follow where you share your work inspired from this one little night. Today I start my day with a smile, calmness of mind, coolness of emotions and a heart filled with Gratitude from Mixed Media Monday ♥
“To be upset about what you don’t have is always a waste of what you do have. The happiest and most successful people aren’t the luckiest, and they usually don’t have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes their way. The reason so many people give up is because they tend to look at what’s missing, and how far they still have to go, instead of what’s present, and how far they have come."
I LOVE when I log in the next morning and see posts like this:
Sandy: "So I painted after watching Tracy today I actually selected my colours while watching her paint.. I had planned on using my new stencils I received for my birthday so this was perfect for what I had planned for today.. So Tracy said to let it go so I did and just went with what she had done.. Tracy dared us to make something with one of her selected colour schemes and to put on the page something with gratitude.. Well I am grateful to Tracy for showing me the world of mixed media and watercolour. I would not be doing any of this if it was not for the weekly lessons on ustream. So the quote on my page is. "At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us". Thanks Tracy for lighting that flame.."
I am getting in the Halloween spirit! It is now one of my favorite times with the kiddos. This year I made Halloween treats with two of my favorite companies DecoArt (featured on their blog HERE) and Viewtainer......candy treats for the kid's classrooms...
They are so easy to make. Cut your own tag out of thick cardstock or watercolor/acrylic paper. Use masking tape (I highly recommend FrogTape Shape Tape Wave & Chevron) to create some fun designs/borders.
Add some details with a Sharpie and stamp or write Halloween message:
Affix to small Viewtainers filled with candy with ribbon of your choice:
"Everything is as it should be - crazy how you always end up where you’re meant
to be – how even the most tragic and stressful situations eventually teach you
important lessons that you never dreamed you were going to learn.
Remember, oftentimes when things are falling apart, they are actually falling
into place."
I was really looking forward to Mixed Media Monday as it is time in my Studio that is scheduled. Sometimes that is what it takes to find that time. Here is the page that I painted LIVE.....
I just loved the flow of this page and the details:
Remember to join the Facebook Group HERE and share your projects! Our offical Creative Dare for October is HERE! Can you believe that October is almost over! Here is the calendar and I will see you next Monday!
“It is only possible to live happily ever after on a daily basis. Laziness and procrastination may appear attractive, but action leads to happiness. Great challenges make life interesting; overcoming them makes life meaningful. When tomorrow comes, today will be gone forever. In its place will be something that you have left behind. Let it be something worthwhile – something you are thankful for."
I am excited to share this DecoArt project. As you know we have aprons for Mixed Media Monday and everyone has been on me about getting paint on mine! So here is what the apron looks like brand new.....
So after much prodding to get paint on it my friend and DecoArt Blogger, Lori Batronis threw down the challenge! We decided to both paint our aprons! Here is my completed Apron and it was so easy to decorate!
All you need are some DecoArt SoSoft Fabric Paints (Colors I used: Pearl/White, Lamp Black, Island Blue, Avocado Green, Cadmium Yellow, Yellow Green, Green Apple, Tangerine, Primary Yellow, Hauser Light Green, Ocean Blue, Red Pepper, and Fushsia)
Here are my Step-By-Step Photos:
I really enjoyed this challenge and working with these paints. I decided to just let it go and make this apron my own! Thank you Lori for inspiring me and daring me to take this challenge! I loved sharing this and all the fun texts Friday! Make sure to click and see Lori's AWESOME apron HERE! It is so HER ♥!
"There is not a clear path that everyone should follow. Your greatest fear should not be of failure, but of succeeding in life at all the wrong things. Choose a path that fits YOU. Those who follow the crowd usually get lost in it. Challenge yourself to ask with each and every step, and each focus point that consumes your energy"
